Yvan Alagbé
An emblematic figure of the alternative scene of the French comics and one of the most prominent representatives of small press comic, he was born in Paris in 1971. Meeting Olivier Marboeuf was decisive for his career. Marboeuf urged him to give up his university studies and commit himself to comics. Together they published a fanzine about contemporary art, “L'oeil Carnivore”, and the famous alternative magazine “Le cheval sans tête”. He was also co-founder of the publishing house Amok (later to become Frémok after the fusion with Fréon). His works are often about migration and race issues as well as the cultural obsessions of European people, drawn from an insightful and ironic perspective. During the past few years, besides comics and independent publications, he has also taught, working creatively with students and pupils.
