Cleopatra Charitou
Cleopatra Charitou was born in Athens. She studied photography in New York, Athens, and London. Since 2005 she has been living and working in Athens. She has published three albums and has presented seven solo exhibitions. Her show is titled “The Prosfygika of Alexandra Avenue” and it highlights the historical and architectural importance of the Prosfygika – apartment blocks built for the refugees from Asia Minor. “The homes are containers of life much like the body is a container of life: it is our home, it is the place of memory. I approached the refugees’ apartments of Alexandra Avenue as a similar place, in which I fumble memory and come to contact with indications of life, despite the abandonment and decay”. The exhibition was presented for the first time at Benaki Museum in April and May 2012.
